Mediterranean guitar festival opens up on young musical talents

Tunis, March 18, 2009- Since its timid beginnings 6 years ago the Mediterranean guitar festival has earned a strong reputation for itself thanks to the enthusiasm and energy of its organisers, as well as the quality of the performances it offers.

The sixth edition of the event which is due to be held on March 21 to 26, 2009, in the capital, will open up on young Tunisian musical talents, selected on the basis of several auditions carried out throughout the country.

Featuring jazz, flamenco, rock, gipsy and slam, the festival will showcase musical bands from Tunisia and Italy.

Master classes will also be held on a daily basis by Tunisian and visiting guitar players for young would -be musicians.

All concerts will be held at the El Menzah VI cultural centre except for the opening evening which is due to take place at the Tunis Municipal Theatre on March 21.

The opening will feature notably Tunisian groups like G-Head.

The event is placed under the aegis of the Ministries of culture, youth sports and physical education, and tourism and is organised by the cultural association of guitar fans and the first guitar school in Tunis, the Django Reinhardt school.
