First Edition of “Caravana Latina” Festival: “An hymn to peace and love”

Tunis, December 18, 2008- The birth of a new festival is always a pleasurable event; all the more so when it concerns one of the world’s most popular musical genres, to name it, “latino” music. The first edition of the “Caravana Latina” Festival which was launched on December 16 is being held at the Tunis Municipal Theatre.

The event which will run till December 21, is organized by a private promoter Mr Taher Kheniss, jointly with the embassies of Argentina, Cuba and Brazil. In the words of the organizer, the festival is “An hymn to love and peace”.

One of the event’s highlights is undoubtedly the much awaited performance of Brazilian artist

Catia Werneck who is known to blend the “Bossa Nova” with the Samba. The Brazilian singer will perform for two consecutive days on December 18 and 19.

This festival will provide the Tunisian public with the opportunity to discover several Latin musical genres from different cultural backgrounds and notably the salsa. The opening ceremony featured Tunisian dancers who performed to the sound of an electronic Afro-Latino music played by a Cuban group. The mixing of genres was further enhanced by a “melting pot” made up of artists from several nationalities and cultures, performing on the same stage.

The closing ceremony will feature a sensuous Argentinean tango thanks to the performance of Gustavo Gancedo (see photo), a talented guitar player whose attempts at giving the tango a new coloring, while complying with Argentinean tradition, are enjoying great success in Argentina.
