Tunis, June 22, 2009- The 45 th edition of the Carthage International Festival will feature a roster of stars who will perform on the stage of the mythic scene of the open air Carthage Roman Theatre from July 9 to August 17, 2009.
The news was announced by the festival’s director, Mr Boubaker Ben Fraj during a press conference in Tunis on Saturday. Hundreds of singers, musicians and performers will take part in the 37 shows, scheduled by the festival’s organizing committee, including such great names as Cheb Khaled, Marcel Khalifa, Warda, Lotfi Bouchnaq , Saber Rebai and Amina Fakhet, to name but a few.
Mr Ben Fraj said that the organizers have decided to play the card of diversity by inviting artists from Europe, Africa, America and Asia, while giving Tunisian artists a chance to express their talent. Some 14 of the 37 shows will be given by Tunisian performers.
Three symphony orchestras, the Budapest Gipsy 100 violin orchestra, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, and the Tunisian Symphony orchestra in addition to the Tunisian orchestra of traditional music, the “Rachidia”, will also take part in the event.
Tickets can be purchased online on the festival’s website, which also features the festival’s complete program.
The Carthage International Festival is doubtless one of the most awaited and most popular events on the Tunisian cultural scene. Because of the quality and notoriety of the performers, it is expected that this year’s edition will be attended by a very large public.
