Much awaited second edition of “Tozeur the Oriental, the African“ to kick off in spring

Tunis, February 5, 2009- Following the success of the first edition of the festival, “Tozeur, the Oriental, the African” in 2008, the festival’s organizers are bracing up for the second edition of the event which for four consecutive days, will make Tozeur the centre of the world .

From April 30 to May 2, 2009 Tozeur will attract traditional music groups and singers from all over the planet including the Bajastan gypsies, Alpha Blondy (The Cote d’Ivoire), Turkey’s turning dervishes, Kodo’s drums (Japan) and Yaya Coulibali (Mali).

The festival will also feature, Manu Dibango, Souad Massi, Doudou N’daye Rose.

The sound of the traditional Tunisian ‘nay’ (flute) will enchant the city’s palm groves and will charm snakes in the patio of the Dar Chraiet Hotel. To the great joy of onlookers and music lovers, the festival will also showcase acrobatic shows, magicians’ tricks, and puppeteers from Japan and Africa.

The Festival’s artistic director, Mr Alain Weber sets the tone when he says that “By travelling between a multitude of locations, from the Djerid magic palm grove to a touareg tent, a music parlor in Dar Chraiet, to the narrow streets of the medina, and the open theatre at the ‘Star Wars’ Site , the festival will provide a unique opportunity to take a stroll towards the magic beauty of an oriental Africa.”
