Tunis, July 9, 2009- The 45 th edition of the Carthage International Festival opens on July 9 with a tribute to Tunisia’s laureate poet, Aboulkacem El Chebbi. The festival which runs through August 17, 2009, will feature a number of celebrities including Charles Aznavour, Cheb Khaled, Patricia Kaas, Marcel Khalifa, Warda, Lotfi Bouchnaq , Saber Rebai and Amina Fakhet, among many others.
The Carthage International Festival is one of the most popular events on the Tunisian cultural scene. The 2009 edition of the festival will feature 36 shows combining eclecticism with tradition and modernity.All of the shows will take place on the mythic scene of the Roman open air theatre.
The opening ceremony will feature a musical comedy dubbed “The New Dawn” by Mohsen Ben Nefissa and Hatem Derbal. The show will retrace Chebbi’s exceptional destiny and offer highlights of his poetic work.
